The Chasing Ice team wanted to chronicle, up-close and personal, glacial retreat over time. To accomplish their goal, they braved remarkable conditions to place cameras in the glacial environment set to capture an image every hour of daylight over three years. The result? In a word, “Stunning!”

Balog and his team’s commitment to recording, sharing and analyzing the melting of these ancient mountains of ice were clear throughout the film. The team faced broken cameras, below-zero weather, extreme winds and treacherous ice cliffs yet they continued onward with determination, focus and great optimism.

The Floating Polar Film Festival, organized by the polar specialists, is a shipshape documentary festival that will set sail from Buenos Aires on 2 November 2013, and head south towards the Antarctic. Curated by Hot Docs (North America’s largest documentary film festival), a diverse series of documentary screenings are planned for the voyage, with Jeff Orlowski’s climate-change film, Chasing Ice, headlining.
